NIFL Adds Winston-Salem Franchise for 2002
NIFL Press Release
LAFAYETTE, LA - The National Indoor Football League has added another franchise to its roster - The Winston-Salem Energy. A 2 p.m. press conference on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 at the Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, NC will mark the official announcement of the Energy's inclusion in the league. Headed by team owner David Graham, the Energy will begin game play in the 2002 season.
The NIFL has high hopes for the Energy. "We're excited about bringing the league to Winston-Salem, and we believe the city will support the team and help it thrive," says NIFL Operations Manager, Tina Johnston.
The Energy's announcement comes on the heels of last week's announcement of Bismarck's addition to the NIFL. Other projected expansion franchises in 2002 include Austin, TX and Houma, LA. The NIFL is expected to announce the 2002 schedule on October 15, 2001.
