Nick Solak Named Southern League Player of the Month

September 5, 2018 - Southern League (SL1) News Release

MARIETTA, GA - The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs are proud to announce that Nick Solak of the Montgomery Biscuits has been named the Southern League Player of the Month for August.

Solak earns the award after leading the Southern League last month in both slugging percentage (.537) and OPS (.941). He also ranked among the league leaders in batting average (.305, 7th), runs scored (17, 4th), total bases (44, T-3rd), and on-base percentage (.404, T-1st). The Woodridge, Illinois native was charged with no errors across 19 games split between second base, left field, and center field. In part due to Solak's outstanding play, Montgomery has posted a league best 20-11 team record since August 1.

The 23-year-old Solak finished the regular season pacing the Southern League in hits (135), on-base percentage (.384), and runs scored (91) while also finishing among the league's best in batting average (.282, T-4th), RBI (76, 2nd), and total bases (215, 3rd). Solak also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 57 games patrolling the outfield, and a .990 fielding percentage at second base; the highest mark among all players to appear in over 70 games at the position this year.

The University of Louisville product was named both a Southern League midseason and postseason All-Star in 2018, and is currently listed as the Rays' no. 11 prospect by MLB Pipeline. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft by the New York Yankees organization and traded to the Tampa Bay Rays in February 2018 before being assigned to Montgomery in early April.
