NFLEL teams make roster cuts after completion of training camp action
Published on March 20, 2005 under National Football League Europa (NFLE) News Release
FOR many players, the conclusion of three weeks of training camp in the storms and sunshine of Tampa Bay, Florida, brings dreams of World Bowl glory as they pack their suitcases for a flight to Europe. For others, there is the disappointment of being cut from the roster and handed a plane ticket back home.
NFL Europe League head coaches have begun to make their decisions about which players fall into each category after selecting the players who will make their travelling parties for their journeys to their home European cities this week.
As always, it was a tough process. Amsterdam Admirals head coach BART ANDRUS summed up the feeling of all coaching staffs when he said: "This is the hardest thing that I have to do in this job. The thing is that these guys are young and they will have other opportunities. Professional sports is a harsh business. We have to go with the guys that we feel the most comfortable with, but it is never easy."
Teams made the roster moves listed below following the final game condition scrimmages on Saturday, but the teams' opening day rosters are still some way from being set.
Further transactions are still to be concluded, including the designation of two American players per team as NFLEL Active players (ie. controlled by the league) and two NFLEL Practice Squad players per team. They will be announced at a later date, along with additional national player transactions.
Even for the players waived, the World Bowl dream may not yet be over, as it is possible for other teams to pick up some of those players waived.
