Red Deer, AB--The Edmonton Rush and Calgary Roughnecks are pleased to announce that they will launch the next edition of the National Lacrosse League's Battle of Alberta on a neutral battlefield - the Enmax Centre in Red Deer.

The teams will meet Saturday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. in an exhibition match up. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

"We are excited about our team for the 2009 season," said Rush Team President Duane Vienneau. "A great way for us to start the year is to bring our fast and talented team to play in front of the great fans in Red Deer against our provincial rivals."

"For us the road to success leads through Calgary and beating the Roughnecks. We anticipate 2009 being our best season ever and we will kick it off with a bang by roughing up the Roughnecks in Red Deer."

The Roughnecks are also excited by the opportunity that the pre-season game presents.

"It's the perfect matchup between the two provincial rivals," said Roughnecks Owner and President Brad Banister.

"We held our first training camp in Red Deer years ago so we know it's a great place to play. It's an opportunity to showcase our sport in a city that has a very strong minor lacrosse background. We look forward to getting the season started and the Battle of Alberta under way."

The Rush and Roughnecks have met 10 times in regular-season play during their three years of co-existence with Calgary holding a 7-3 lead in the all-time series. The Roughnecks won three of four meetings in the Rush's inaugural season of 2006 though the Rush captured their only victory of the year with a last-second goal at the Saddledome. Calgary has won two of three meetings in each of the past two seasons although both of the Rush's wins came on the Roughnecks' home floor.

The Rush and Roughnecks will meet three times during the 2009 regular season including the Rush's first game of the year and the Roughnecks' home opener on January 10. Calgary's opens its regular season one night earlier in San Jose and Edmonton opens its home-floor schedule on January 16 against the Portland LumberJax.

Before the season gets under way, the teams will undergo a thorough training camp, and for the first time in franchise history, the Rush are taking the start of their training camp on the road. From November 13 -16, the Rush will run their camp at Qwest Arena in Boise, Idaho, which will include a free public intrasquad on November 14. The Rush's camp will continue at Rexall Place and the Trans Alta Tri-Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove on the weekends of November 28 - 30, December 4 - 7, and December 12 -14.

The Roughnecks' training camp begins November 22 at the Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre in Cochrane.
