What Is the NWHL? The National Women's Hockey League is the first professional league to pay women to play hockey. The 2015-16 season marks the inaugural campaign for this four team organization and has been extensively covered worldwide.
This game features several Olympic-level players including two-time silver medalist Kelli Stack and Japanese sensation Nana Fujimoto.
Game Details: The Riveters come into Sunday's play fresh off of a 7-3 victory over Buffalo on December 27th. Meghan Fardelmann notched the first hat trick in franchise history, while Janine Weber and Lyudmila Belyakova both scored a pair of goals in the win. Five NWHL players from New York and Connecticut participated in the 2016 Outdoor Women's Classic presented by Scotiabank on December 31 (Bray Ketchum, Meghan Fardelmann, Shannon Doyle, Kate Buesser and Kaleigh Fratkin).
After winning their first eight straight to start the 2015-16 season, the Whale fell to the Boston Pride 2-1 last Sunday. Connecticut expects to have Kelli Stack back in the lineup after U.S. National Team obligations kept her out of action for that game.
Media wishing to cover the game should email Jake Duhaime (jduhaime@nwhl.co) for credentials. Both teams will be available for interviews following the conclusion of play (9:30PM). Television crews on deadline will have media availability with players from 5:00-5:30 PM by special request only.
