NBA summons fifth Dakota Wizard this season

Boise, ID (February 5, 2004) — Dakota Wizards All-Star guard Eddie Gill received a call-up to the Portland Trail Blazers, it was announced Thursday by the Continental Basketball Association League Office and the Trail Blazers front office. The CBA-to-NBA call-up is the ninth overall league call-up, and the fifth call-up of a player from the Wizards (Sean Lampley, Oliver Miller, Kaniel Dickens, Maurice Carter), since the 2003-04 season began on November 14.

In 25 games (all started) with the Wizards this season, Gill ranked 11th in the league in scoring (18.1 points per game), 3rd in assists (8.0 per game), and 3rd in steals (2.8 per game). He also added 121 rebounds and two blocked shots, shot 38.4 percent (28 of 73) from the three-point line, and led the league in free-throw shooting at 88.9 percent (152 of 171).

The Weber State alum posted eight double-doubles during the season, and notched a triple-double on January 2 against the Yakima Sun Kings, when he scored 19 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and handed out 12 assists. He also posted 15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals in the 20th CBA All-Star Classic on January 20 in Yakima, WA, as a member of the National Team, who beat the American squad 105-103.

Gill, who will be in uniform Friday night for the Blazers as they travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz, signed a multi-year contract with Portland.
