Nationals Announce 23-Man Roster

(Hamilton, September 24)... The Hamilton Nationals announced their 23-Man Protected List for the 2012 Major League Lacrosse season. The Nats are coming off a trip to the MLL Championship Finals after finishing the regular season tied for second place with a 7-5 record.
The Nationals won some individual awards for their impressive turnaround. Hamilton was the most improved team in the MLL, going from 3-9 to 7-5. Attackman Jeremy Boltus was honored as the MLL Rookie of the Year. Selected with the Nationals' eighth round pick in the MLL Collegiate Draft, the former United States Military Academy attackman was the Nationals' second-leading scorer with 30 points, which also led all MLL rookies. He was the Nationals' leading goal scorer with 19 goals and contributed 11 assists, which ranked third on the team.
Midfielder Joe Walters and defenseman Brodie Merrill were named to the 2011 Lacrosse.com All-Major League Lacrosse team. Walters, who was named to the All-MLL Team for the third time in four years, ranked fifth in the MLL this season with 39 points. The Nationals' leading scorer, Walters scored 18 goals, including a two-point goal, with a career-high 20 assists. The former University of Maryland standout is in his fifth MLL season. Walters has scored 114 career goals with 69 assists. He also has six two-point goals in his career.
Named as the Warrior Defensive Player of the Year for the sixth straight season, Merrill earned his sixth All-MLL Team selection after leading the league with 77 ground balls. In addition, he led all MLL defenders with four goals, including a two-point marker, with 12 assists. Merrill, who completed his seventh season in the MLL, has scored 35 goals, including a pair of two-point markers, with 60 assists in his career. He also ranks second in MLL history with 524 career ground balls.
All players not currently in the MLL Player Pool may register online beginning on Monday, September 26th. The 10 or 12 Man Protected Lists (due Wednesday, October 12) will be the next step in rounding out the team rosters for the 2012 MLL season. They are designed to allow teams to retain either 10 or 12 players who will not be available for the Expansion or Supplemental Drafts.
