Nationals Acquire Casey Powell

(Hamilton, July 20)... The Hamilton Nationals are again planning for the future as was evident at the Major League Lacrosse deadline Tuesday. Hamilton acquired attackman Casey Powell from the Rochester Rattlers in exchange for their 2012 second-round collegiate draft pick.
"It is a longshot, but there is always next year. We are still building for the future," said Head Coach Regy Thorpe. "With the team in the playoff hunt we thought it might motivate him to come back. If he chooses not to play this weekend we will be ready to roll without him."
The Nationals travel to play the Boston Cannons on Saturday, July 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at Harvard Stadium. Powell is a three-time MLL Champion, four-time All-Star and is seventh all-time in goals with 197. He won the 2008 MLL Championship with the Rochester Rattlers. The former Syracuse University star entered the 2011 season as Major League Lacrosse's all-time leader in points (388).
Powell was a four-time All-American and a two-time National Player of the Year at Syracuse. He helped SU to the 1995 NCAA National Championship and was recognized as a four-time member of the NCAA All-Tournament team. Powell scored 158 goals and added 129 assists for 287 points in 58 games. He was named Division I National Attackman of the Year as a senior, and Division I National Midfielder of the Year as a sophomore.
Powell was originally the first overall pick of the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League in 1999. He is a six-time All-Pro and became the first American to win the league's MVP award in 2010. The 35 year old was named to the All-World Team at the 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, as he led the Americans' offense with 16 goals and 15 assists in five games. He played for Team USA in the 1998 FIL World Lacrosse Championship and helped the US win gold. Powell is currently the Director of Lacrosse Programs at the St. Andrew's School.
If Powell does not report, the Rattlers will receive a third-round pick.
