National Lacrosse League Partners with IBLA to Further Grow the Sport of Lacrosse
October 3, 2019 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
PHILADELPHIA - The National Lacrosse League (NLL), the world's most successful men's professional indoor lacrosse league, has formed a partnership with the Interstate Box Lacrosse Association (IBLA).
The relationship will provide another avenue to bring lacrosse talent into the National Lacrosse League.
"This partnership is a great way to reach further into the grassroots of lacrosse and continue to grow the game," said NLL Commissioner Nick Sakiewicz. "As our league continues to unlock the great game played in the NLL to the grassroots we look for additional ways to showcase the best rising stars in our game and this partnership provides another way for us to inspire more players and coaches."
The IBLA is comprised of adult Regional Box Lacrosse Leagues in fifteen different states within nine regions that compete under the same set of rules, as well as use similar schedules and playoff structure. The winners of each region then compete in the IBLA National Tournament. The IBLA has regions in California, Colorado, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New England, New Jersey, Ohio, and the Pacific Northwest.
The Partnership will allow the National Lacrosse League to establish relationships with IBLA players for invitations to NLL Combines, as well as provide assistance to the IBLA to develop coaches and officials for future positions as the NLL continues to expand.
IBLA games will provide consistency to replicate NLL games and rules, with the understanding that the IBLA can make minor adjustments based on facilities, equipment and player safety. The IBLA will have the opportunity to experiment with minor rule variances from the NLL rulebook.
"We are thrilled to partner with the National Lacrosse League," said Brandon Scharaga, IBLA National Director. "The NLL has put in great efforts growing box lacrosse at the professional level, and we believe our players, coaches, and officials will now be able to take full opportunity of the IBLA's new relationship with the NLL. The IBLA will now become a steppingstone to the NLL."
