NEW YORK, NY (June 18, 2014) - Three North American Soccer League (NASL) teams have advanced in the 2014 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup (#NASLTheCup) - setting up an unbelievably exciting Tuesday, June 24 of soccer. With half of the NASL teams remaining advancing from the Fourth Round to the Fifth Round, the clubs will continue to represent the League as they attempt to secure one of the four U.S. slots to the CONCACAF Champions League.
"With the Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup concluded for NASL clubs, our three remaining clubs are showing the quality of soccer we are playing in the NASL," said NASL Commissioner Bill Peterson. "We are proud of the effort of all of our teams in this round. We played competitively in every match, winning three of six matches and just missing out on a couple of additional results."
The #NASLvMLS Round 5 encounters will be highlighted by New York Cosmos playing on the road for the first time in the U.S. Open Cup, as they travel down I-95 to meet Philadelphia Union.
