Kansas City Red Birds are Changing Name to Raytown Red Birds Kansas City, Mo â What's in a name change?
The move by the Red Birds to rename the team will likely bring more revenue from advertising and a new TV contract next year but probably won't affect its fan base.
The team said changing the name to the Raytown Red Birds was part of a long-term business plan to boost revenue and expand its marketing reach. The decision was made by Red Birds owner Patrick Rowles.
"We spent quite a bit of money doing research on this," said Rowles, who just recently purchased the franchise the in 2004. "We were trying to broaden our overall economic reach, as well as increase overall community involvement."
