
NAHL & WSHL Monsters' Playoff Updates

Fresno, Calif. - The NAHL Fresno Monsters have their sights set on a post-season berth, and things are looking up for the 4th place Monsters. Last weekend Fresno took 3 out of 4 possible points against the division-leading Fairbanks Ice Dogs in Fairbanks, Alaska. Friday the Monsters fell to the Ice Dogs in an overtime shootout by a score of 5-4. Saturday the Monsters took a two-goal lead in the first period and never looked back. They went on to defeat the Fairbanks Ice Dogs by a final score of 2-1 in an outdoor game in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The NAHL Monsters still have 4 regular season games left, and they are currently in the 4th and final playoff spot in the west division, 3 points ahead of the 5th place Kenai River Brown Bears. The Monsters return home this weekend to take on the Wenatchee Wild in a two-game series this Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24 at Selland Arena at 7:35pm. They will face Wenatchee again the following weekend in Wenatchee, Washington to wrap up the 2011-2012 regular season. The Kenai River Brown Bears have 5 regular season games remaining, including a three-game home stand this weekend against the Dawson Creek Rage.

In other news, the WSHL Fresno Monsters were crowned the 2012 Western Conference Champions on Sunday after defeating the Valencia Flyers in game three of the Round 2 best-of-three series at Gateway Ice Center, winning two games to one. The Fresno Monsters next travel to El Paso, Texas for the Thorne Cup Championship round robin tournament. The Monsters will battle the El Paso Rhinos, Idaho Jr. Steelheads, and the Dallas Ice Jets with games on March 29, 30, and 31. The two teams with the best record from the round robin tournament will play on Sunday, April 1st for the Thorne Cup and the title of WSHL league champion.
