Strong Warriors of Maui News Release

The Na Koa Ikaika Maui professional baseball club announced today that they have come to terms with Garry Templeton, the 2010 GBL Manager of the Year, as their new field manager for the 2011 season. Templeton replaces Cory Snyder, who led Maui to the Championship Series last year before falling to Templeton's Chico Outlaws. Snyder has just accepted a job as a minor league coach in the Seattle Mariner's organization and will be assigned to Double-A Jackson, Tennessee.

"I am excited to be managing Maui for the 2011 season. They had a great team last year with many excellent Hawaiian players. I'm ready to bring plenty of excitement and great baseball to the Maui community," said Templeton.

Templeton has been a consistent winner in the Golden Baseball League as his 2006 Fullerton Flyers reached the Championship Series before falling to the Reno Silver Sox and his 2010 Chico Outlaws won the GBL Championship defeating Maui and not losing a single playoff game. With the new Maui owners having previous experience with Templeton given their background of ownership with the Flyers, he was their first choice to succeed Snyder. Even though Templeton had only been on a one-year agreement with the Chico Outlaws, Maui first requested permission from Chico to approach him.

"Garry did a fabulous job for us in 2010 and we were hoping to have him back," said Chico Outlaws President Mike Marshall. "Given the allure of the Hawaiian Islands and his closeness with the ownership group I can certainly understand Garry's decision and wish him well."

"Maui's new managing members Bob Young, Leroy Pettigrew, and Harris Tulchin, who also hold interests in the Orange County Flyers, said in a joint statement that they were thrilled to have Gary rejoining them in the managerial role at Maui, as they had been very comfortable working with him in Orange County, and look forward to Gary bringing another championship home to Maui."
