LAFAYETTE, La. (April 22, 2009) - Acadiana Mudbugs defensive back Kemmie Lewis has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's first player of the week by virtue of his performance and fan vote.

Lewis had three first half interceptions, one of which he returned for a touchdown in the Mudbugs' 37-29 victory over the Austin Turfcats.

Lewis received 39 percent of the vote and teammate wide receiver Jermaine Martin had 35 percent. Texas Pirates running back Roland Hayes followed with 22 percent and Pirates defensive back Ed Moore had 4 percent.

"It is a great honor to receive this award," said Lewis. "I'm very ecstatic right now being the first player in SIFL history to achieve this goal."

"I told him all week not to get beat deep," said defensive coordinator Derek Landry. "And before the game, he said coach 'I'm not getting beat deep."

Each SIFL game has four MVPs for offensive, defensive, line and special teams. Two game MVPS are selected for balloting for the league-wide MVP by fans at the official league website at www.southernifl.com.

The Mudbugs host the Texas Pirates Saturday. Other SIFL games see the Louisiana Swashbucklers (0-0) hosting the PASM Florida Kings (0-0) while the Austin Turfcats (0-1) are on the road against the Houma Conquerors.
