Traverse City North Stars News Release

WYANDOTTE - If the Traverse City North Stars don't claim the NAHL's North Division this season, they may well point to a two-game sweep at the hands of the fourth-place Motor City Metal Jackets as one of the reasons.

For the second straight night, the Jackets overcame a 2-0 deficit to score a one-goal victory over the visiting division leaders. Eric Millisor levied a natural hat trick in the second period, as Motor City rattled off four straight scores and outshot TC by a 21-8 margin to mount a lead they would never relinquish in a 4-3 victory.

Garrett Thompson (Traverse City, MI/TC North Stars) scored twice for the North Stars, who fell to 26-14-4 and remain four point up on second-place Marquette in the North standings. The Rangers were idle over the weekend, and have two games in hand against TC. Marquette visits Motor City on Monday in a President's Day matinee.

After Eric Rivard (Traverse City, MI/TC West HS) got Traverse City on the board first 7:09 into the game, Thompson made it 2-0 just 2:45 into the second period. Millisor then connected for a trio of goals in a span of just over six minutes, and the Jackets added another to take a 4-2 bulge into the final intermission. Thompson cut the margin to 4-3 with his 19th goal of the season, but the North Stars could not collect the equalizer down the stretch.

Chris Paliafito (Shelbyville, KY/Owatonna NAHL) started his sixth straight game, making 34 saves in 38 chances. Bo Jacobs (Twin Lake, MI/TC North Stars), Dan Radke (Orinda, CA/TC North Stars/Lake Superior St.), Tim Opie (Troy, MI/TC North Stars), Ryan Amin (Canton, MI/Kenai River NAHL), and Kelin Ainsworth (Thunder Bay, ONT/Ft. Williams SIJHL/Lake Superior St.) had one assist apiece.

The North Stars return to the friendly confines of Centre ICE arena for 10 of the final 14 games, starting next weekend against third- place Janesville - hosting the Jets on Saturday evening and in a Sunday afternoon matinee.
