Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Derek Moore started and went eight strong innings Thursday night, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out nine. In the ninth, Jake Horew crushed a fly ball to deep left-center field for a walkoff single to give the Chillicothe Paints (1-0), presented by Adena Health System, an Opening Night win over defending Prospect League Champion Terre Haute REX (0-1) in front of a crowd of 3,692 at VA Memorial Stadium.
Terre Haute broke into the run column first when Niko Decolati hit a two-out solo home run over the left-center field wall in the top of the fourth.
The Paints came right back to tie it in the bottom of the fifth. Eli Boggess lead off with an infield hit after Terre Haute shortstop Justin Kirkpatrick made a diving stop on a grounder behind the second base bag, but Boggess beat the throw. Rusty Shull then picked up a bunt base hit, followed by a Michael Blatchford bunt base hit to load the bases with no one out. After back to back strikeouts, Horew worked an RBI walk to score Boggess, tying the game at one.
It stayed one-one until the bottom of the ninth. After the first two batters were retired quickly, Nick Ryan reached on a throwing error by REX short stop Kirkpatrick. With Jack Thompson at the plate, the Paints executed a hit and run, allowing Ryan to go first-to-third. Horew then picked up his second RBI of the night with a long fly ball to right field, scoring Ryan and earning the Paints a walkoff win.
Bryce Arledge pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for the Paints and earned his first win of the season. Terre Haute reliever Thomas Waning took his first loss of the season.
Next, the Paints welcome the Champion City Kings to VA Memorial Stadium Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The first 500 fans will receive magnetic schedules, courtesy of Maleine Davis / Brewster Real Estate & Auctions.
