Monsters Clinch Regular Season Division Title, Begin Playoffs Tomorrow

Fresno, Calif. - After a rough weekend in Idaho two weeks ago, the Fresno Monsters knew what they had to do to secure home-ice advantage throughout the Western State Hockey League playoffs, and it wasn't easy. The Monsters had to earn two wins and four points in the standings in the last two regular season games on the road to distance themselves from the 2nd place Idaho Jr. Steelheads and clinch the Western Division regular season title.
Last weekend the Monsters traveled to take on the Long Beach Bombers on Friday and the Valencia Flyers on Saturday. On Friday the Monsters took care of business in Long Beach, knocking off the Bombers for the 6th and final time this season. This time the Monsters won by a final score of 7-2. Fresno had 7 different goal scorers on the night. Saturday was a crucial night against the Valencia Flyers. With the Monsters' 5-1 victory in Valencia, the Fresno clinched the Western States Hockey League Western Division regular season title, solidifying home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs if the Monsters advance each round.
Playoff hockey begins tomorrow at Selland Arena in a best-of-three series against the San Diego Gulls. Game 1 is on Friday, Feb. 26 at 7:30pm, Game 2 is on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30pm, and Game 3 is on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 2:00pm if necessary. Fans are encouraged to stay late Saturday for a live post-game jersey auction for the home-white jerseys off our backs. Buy the jersey, take a photo, & get the jersey at the end of playoffs.
Should the Monsters advance to Round 2 in the playoffs, they will play the winner of the Idaho Jr. Steelheads/Phoenix Polar Bears series.
