Mo Oduor leads Islanders to 1-0 win over Charlotte

(Charlotte, NC) - Mo Oduor continued his scoring rampage in Charlotte notching his team leading fifth goal of the season just before the half to lead the Islanders (7-2-4) to a 1-0 win over the Charlotte Eagles (9-4-1) on Saturday night. Oduor was also credited with the game winner on Friday night's 1-0 win over Wilmington. City Islanders netminder Matt Nelson notched is 7th shutout of the season.
The Islanders played another solid first half and traded evenly with the always dangerous Charlotte squad throughout. However, just minutes before the half Mo Oduor put the Isle Guys up for good with a goal in the 42nd minute.
When the Islanders returned to the field in the second half it was obvious that the long bus rides and the brutal two matches in two nights schedule had caught up with them as the gas tank was on empty. However, the team was able to defend against the Eagles expected direct assaults as Charlotte utilized it's usual long ball and throw in into the box style of play. The 66 yard field continued to play to their strengths as possession was not in either teams' game plan. The exhausted Islanders just wanted to clear and defend and trademark counter attacks against the Eagles would have to wait for a potential post season match up. The men in blue buckled down and did "Whatever It Takes" to secure the win and sweep the two game series having defeated the Eagles on City Island by a score of 4-3 on May 5.
The Islanders return home to take on DC United in the Third Round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday July 11th at Hempfield High School in Landisville, PA. Kickoff is slated for 7:30pm and tickets can be purchased in advance by calling 717.441.GOAl or visiting www.cityislanders.com.
