MLL Week Seven Notebook
July 12, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
Boston, MA - Week Seven of the Major League Lacrosse season kicked off yesterday with "Camp Day" in New York and Denver and the campers were treated to some of the most entertaining lacrosse games of the year. The New York Lizards put together a dominant second half to beat the Boston Cannons, while the Denver Outlaws edged the Atlanta Blaze in a seesaw battle in the Mile High City.
Lizards Silence The Cannons
The New York Lizards came into the weekend looking to turn things around after a rough 1-5 start to the season. Things weren't looking good in the first half against the Boston Cannons as Boston jumped out to an 8-5 lead through 30 minutes.
Lizards Head Coach B.J O'Hara must have said something to his team at the break because the Lizards came out of the locker room clicking on all cylinders. The Lizards scored seven consecutive goals in the third quarter en route to a 15-12 victory. Dylan Molloy led the Lizards with four goals on the afternoon.
Outlaws Outlast Blaze
Camp Day continued at Broncos Stadium at Mile High as the Denver Outlaws faced off against the Atlanta Blaze in a matchup of two of the league's best teams. The matchup certainly didn't disappoint as the teams went back and forth over the course of 60 minutes. The Outlaws eventually outlasted the Blaze 18-17 with Zach Currier scoring the game winner with two seconds on the clock.
Rookies Chris Aslanian and Ryan Lee combined for seven goals while Max Adler continued his dominance in the face-off X going 24-37.
Looking Ahead
Week Seven continued Saturday night under the lights at Grady Stadium as the Cannons get set to take on the Blaze. The Cannons and Blaze will both be looking to salvage the weekend with a win. The Cannons sit at 4-2 while the Blaze come into this one at 4-3.
One aspect to look forward to is the goalie play. Both Nick Marrocco and Chris Madalon were selected to the MLL All-Star game for their fine play this season. Madalon and Marrocco came into the week sitting at first and second respectively in save percentage.
The weekend concludes Sunday in Dallas as the Rattlers look to get their first win of the season against the Chesapeake Bayhawks. The Rattlers currently sit at 0-6 and badly need a win to jump start their season. The Bayhawks meanwhile sit at 3-2 and are looking to win two in a row following a win over the Atlanta Blaze last weekend.
Tune in to all the action this weekend across the MLL family of networks.
