MLL Week 9 Preview
August 2, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release
Boston, MA - One half down, one to go. The second half of the 2019 Major League Lacrosse season kicks off this weekend with four games during Week Nine.
Dallas Rattlers at Atlanta Blaze: Saturday, August 3rd
The Weekend begins on Saturday when the Dallas Rattlers travel to Atlanta to take on the Atlanta Blaze. The Rattlers come into this one at 1-7, while the Blaze finished the first half of the season at 5-4.
Storylines to Watch
Dallas Looking to Build Momentum: The Rattlers are coming off a surprise 11-8 road win over the Denver Outlaws. It was the Rattlers first win of the season after starting the year 0-7.
Sean Sconone: Sconone was brilliant in the Rattlers win over the Outlaws, stopping 22 of the 30 Outlaws shots he faced. Sconone has started three games this season, amassing a save percentage of .580 and a GAA of 12.00.
Face- Off Edge: The Blaze could have big edge at the face-off position. Alex Woodall of the Blaze has a FO% of 50.53% while Blake Boudreau leads the Rattlers with a FO% of only 43.65%.
Chesapeake Bayhawks Vs. New York Lizards: Saturday, August 3rd & Sunday, August 4th
The Lizards and Bayhawks play the second and third games of a three game set this weekend. The Lizards beat the Bayhawks 14-10 in their Week Eight matchup.
Storylines to Watch
Balanced Attack for New York: The Lizards have won their last two after starting the year 1-5. Some of that success can be attributed to a balanced scoring attack. In the Lizards Week Eight win over the Bayhawks, seven different Lizards scored a goal. This included hat tricks from Rob Pannell, Justin Reh, and Ryan Walsh.
Can Amato Use All-Star Success to his Advantage? Niko Amato of the Chesapeake Bayhawks was nothing short of brilliant playing in front of his home fans at the MLL All-Star Game. Amato played the entire second half, making 11 saves on 17 shots. At points of the game, it felt like Amato kept Team Ice in it.
Boston Cannons at Denver Outlaws: Saturday, August 3rd
The Outlaws and Cannons sit atop the MLL standings following the first half. The Outlaws went 6-2 while the Cannons went 5-3.
Storylines to Watch
Denver Looking to Rebound: The Outlaws are looking to rebound following an eye-opening loss to the Dallas Rattlers. Denver came into their Week Eight matchup with the Rattlers at a league best 6-1. The loss dropped the Outlaws to 6-2, still good enough for first place in the MLL standings.
Put Shots on Net (Outlaws): The Outlaws currently lead the league in total shots with 384, yet are fourth in MLL when it comes to shots on goal percentage with only 57.6% of their attempts hitting the target. For the Outlaws to be successful, they have to tighten things up on the offensive end.
Cannons Thrive For Consistency: The Cannons currently sit at 5-3, good enough for second in Major League Lacrosse. However, the Cannons are on a little bit of a skid, losing two of their last three after starting the year 4-1. One thing to note, however, the Cannons will most likely have face-off man Kevin Reisman back after he missed the last three games with injury.
