MLL Week 11 Preview

August 16, 2019 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Boston, MA - Week 11 is upon us in Major League Lacrosse, and it may be time to separate the contenders from the pretenders. The Bayhawks, Cannons, and Outlaws look pretty solidified in the playoff structure, while the Blaze hold on to the league's fourth and final playoff spot at 6-5. Meanwhile, the Rattlers and Lizards need to make a run if they hope to be in Denver for Championship Weekend. Here are some storylines heading into Week 11.

Atlanta Blaze at New York Lizards: Saturday, August 17th

The Blaze head to Long Island coming off of a huge road win against the Boston Cannons last weekend. Meanwhile, the Lizards are struggling, losing their last three games. The Blaze are looking to establish themselves as a contender, while the Lizards are hoping to keep their season alive.

Blaze Looking to Extinguish Lizards: The Blaze are looking to potentially put an end to the Lizards season. Should the Blaze win this weekend, the Lizards would sit four games out in the loss column with only four games to go.

Special Teams Battle: The Lizards come into this game leading MLL with a man-up percentage of 47.83%. The Blaze, meanwhile, are the second worst team in the league when a man down, with a penalty kill percentage of 57.14%.

Shots on Goal Percentage: Austin Kaut should be on red-alert, and the Blaze will pepper the goal. The Blaze currently lead the league in shots on goal percentage (SOG%) at 63.56%. While the Lizards may let the ball rip, they are currently last in the league for shots on goal, with a SOG% of 56.14%.

Boston Cannons at Chesapeake Bayhawks: Saturday, August 17th

The Bayhawks are looking to stay hot after winning their last three games. Their win over the Outlaws last weekend propelled them into first place with a record of 7-3. The Cannons are in second place at 6-4.

Cannons Looking to Rebound: The Cannons are looking to rebound following a tough 14-13 home loss to the Atlanta Blaze last weekend. A win against the Bayhawks would give the Cannons a share of first place, with both teams at 7-4.

Bayhawks on a Roll: The Bayhawks are 3-0 since the All-Star break, including a big home win over the Denver Outlaws last weekend. In three games since the break, the Bayhawks have outscored their opponents 47-25.

Bayhawks Faceoff Woes: Despite the teams recent success, the Bayhawks have struggled at the faceoff X. As a team, the Bayhawks went 1-24 against the Outlaws last weekend. The team is hoping to get Kenny Massa back after he missed last weekend's game. Massa is in second in MLL with a faceoff percentage of 59.7%.

Denver Outlaws at Dallas Rattlers: Saturday, August 17th

The Outlaws come into this game on a three game losing streak, while the Rattlers are on a three game winning streak.

Week Eight Rematch: The Rattlers grabbed their first win of the season (11-8) when they played the Outlaws in Denver on July 21st. Sean Sconone was the hero, as the UMASS product, made 22 saves in against the then first place Outlaws.

Teams Going in Different Directions: Both teams come into this one on streaks. The Rattlers are on a three game winning streak after wins over the Outlaws, Blaze, and Lizards. Meanwhile, the Outlaws are on a three game losing streak with losses to the Rattlers, Cannons, and Bayhawks.

Faceoff Battle: For the Outlaws, Max Adler has been a beast at the faceoff X. He is coming off of a record-setting 23-24 (95.8%) performance against the Bayhawks. The 95.8% win rate is the highest in a single game in MLL history. For the season, he has a percentage of 60.41%, first in MLL. The Rattlers, meanwhile, are last in the league with a faceoff percentage of 38.18%.
