MLL Players in NLL 2020

January 2, 2020 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

NLL is now entering week 7 of 22. As it currently stands, the Halifax Thunderbirds (featuring Boston Cannons' Kyle Jackson) and the New England Black Wolves (featuring Chesapeake Bayhawks' Andrew Kew and Colton Watkinson) are the only two NLL teams currently undefeated with a 3-0 record. 10 MLL players have contributed 10 or more points thus far this season. Tied for 19 points are veteran, Lyle Thompson (9 goals, 10 assists) and rookie, Andrew Kew (6 goals, 13 assists). Following closely behind are Shayne Jackson (18), Zack Greer (17), Mark Matthews (16), Randy Staats (15), Ryan Lee (14), Kevin Crowley (11), Shawn Evans (10) and Kyle Jackson (10).

Last week Lyle Thompson and the Swarm came up against Dillon Ward's Colorado Mammoth. Ward's defense was suffocating, keeping Thompson to merely one goal, scored during a power-play in the third quarter. Despite the strong defense keeping him from goal, Thompson was still able to contribute four assists, for a total of five points. Even with Shayne Jackson's additional six points (3G, 3A) the Swarm were handed their first loss of the season. In the game Ward saved 40 of the 51 shots on goal.

Andrew Kew, the outstanding rookie who scored the 2019 MLL Championship game-winning goal for the Chesapeake Bayhawks had another outstanding week in the NLL. In the Black Wolves home opener, they decidedly defeated Alex Woodall's New York Riptide 21-11. Kew contributed eight points to the Blackwolves, three goals and five assists. Kew also contributed to a career milestone for his Black Wolves teammate, Joe Resetarits by dishing him an assist for Resetarits to score and notch his 400th career point.

This upcoming Saturday will feature two NLL games, with the Philadelphia Wings taking on the New York Riptide and the Vancouver Warriors to face the Colorado Mammoth. MLL stars to watch this weekend include Kevin Crowley (Wings), Liam Byrnes (Wings), Alex Woodall (Riptide), Ryan Lee (Mammoth), Dillon Ward (Mammoth) and Warren Jeffrey (Mammoth).
