MLL 2020 Day 2 Results

July 19, 2020 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) News Release

Chesapeake Bayhawks VS New York Lizards

The New York Lizards got off to another fast start today with attackman Dylan Molloy scoring a first-quarter hat trick, but it wasn't enough to stop the Chesapeake Bayhawks scoring frenzy. The Bayhawks came back and won 18-13 on a hot July afternoon.

Molloy's hot hand early on gave New York the 4-0 lead, but the team quickly went cold in the second quarter. The Bayhawks had 14 turnovers in the first half, which led to the Lizards strong start.

While CJ Costabile's two 2-pt goals and an assist propelled his team to another victory, it was a whole team effort that led the Bayhawks to a second straight win. Chesapeake had goals that came from nine different players.

Brian Phipps struggled to contain Molloy and Andrew Petit early in the game, but finished the day with 16 saves, and was an integral part in capturing this win.

It was the second straight day where the Bayhawks had a slow start and pulled through, but their team knows that if they want to win their sixth MLL championship, they have to change things.

"If you continue that, it eventually catches up to you," Bayhawks Head Coach Tom Mariano said. "But hopefully two games in, we're kind of learning from it and improving on it."

The Lizards dropped another tough won and will have 24 hours to regroup to find their first win when they play the Denver Outlaws on Tuesday.

Philadelphia Barrage Vs Denver Outlaws

While the Philadelphia Barrage started off strong, the Outlaws pulled away after the first half and took home their second win of the season with a 15-10 win.

The Outlaws had 11 turnovers in the first half, but the Barrage could not capitalize on them and were down 8-6 at the half.

On a hot July afternoon, one of the biggest factors in the game was staying cool and not cramping as the turf reached 140 degrees. Outlaws All-Star Max Adler struggled to get back in the game after he cramped up.

After the half, the Outlaws offense pulled away and scored seven goals to secure the win.

In his first season of play in MLL, Daniel Bucaro had another impressive showing for the Outlaws and was an integral part of capturing the Outlaws' second straight win. The attackman finished the day with three goals and one assist.

While the Outlaws are 2-0, they know that they have to stay even keel and that every game is as important as the next one.

"The next couple of games are huge too. Every game is big. It's five games and playoffs, so you got to make it. Everyone's good," Dan Bucaro said. "So you got to play to your best and make sure you're recovering and doing everything to your best of your ability.

Monday's Games

Boston Cannons Vs Chesapeake Bayhawks

The Chesapeake Bayhawks are 2-0 and are looking to become 3-0 when they take on a tough 1-0 Boston Cannons Team. Both teams started off slow and will have to start off with a bang if they want to win. The game will be at 7 p.m on ESPN +.
