TCL Acadiana Cane Cutters

Mitchell Nau & Logan Taylor Earn Prestigious TCL Awards

August 9, 2013 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Acadiana Cane Cutters News Release

The Texas Collegiate League takes to the postseason this weekend, but before the playoffs get ramped up, the league announced its yearly award winners and All-TCL Team. Though many talented players were honored from various ball clubs, the league's voters recognized two Cutters in very special ways.

The TCL's most esteemed award, Texas Collegiate League Player of the Year, was nearly a unanimous decision. On Friday afternoon, Acadiana Cane Cutters' catcher Mitchell Nau was crowned with this year's honor along with a spot on the 2013 All-TCL Team starting nine. The 2012 All-TCL honoree followed up his impressive first season in the league with an even better 2013. Nau led the league with a remarkable .352 average and also finished tops in doubles by setting a new league mark at 18. The Texas A&M Aggie finished among the top three in the circuit in RBIs (39), hits (63), and home runs (6). Nau, a two-time all-star, was also one of just two players to earn a pair of Warstic TCL Player of the Week Awards during this summer's campaign.

The sophomore backstop is the second Cane Cutter to be named TCL Player of the Year in the last three seasons. University of Alabama outfielder Taylor Dugas took home the title during the Canes' inaugural season in 2011.

Mitch Nau wasn't the only Acadiana representative to be honored by league brass on Monday. Fellow Aggie Logan Taylor was handpicked as the Texas Collegiate League's best shortstop of 2013. Taylor finished second in the TCL in hitting with a .335 mark at the dish. He also ranked among the top-ten in runs scored (38), hits (58), and stolen bases (17).

Nau and Taylor will lead the Cane Cutters into Victoria to take on the Generals in round one of the Texas Collegiate League Playoffs this Saturday at 7:00 PM. If Acadiana comes away with the victory, the team could host game one of the 2013 TCL Championship Series as early as Sunday night at Fabacher Field.
