Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Bellingham Slam has announced that newly-signed guard Mitch Johnson has left the team to accept a coaching position with Texas Christian University 's men's basketball program.
Johnson was previously announced as a new member of the Slam two weeks ago. His departure opens up a roster spot for an additional guard which the team expects to fill prior to the start of the regular season on April 20.
Mitch was selected to join TCU's men's basketball coaching staff by new head coach Trent Johnson, who coached Mitch at Stanford from 2005 to 2008.
At Stanford, under Trent Johnson's tutelage, Mitch helped guide the Cardinal to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, with his team advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2008.
Last season, Mitch assisted with Seattle University 's men's basketball program.
Mitch Johnson was a prep standout at Seattle 's O'Dea High School, where he played alongside current Slam forward Michael Duty. He helped lead O'Dea to back-to-back 3-A State Tournament titles as a junior and senior.
The Slam open their 2012 International Basketball League schedule on April 20 with a road game in Olympia, before hosting their home opener on Saturday, April 21 against the Salem Soldiers. Tip-off for the game is set for 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion.
