MISL Announces Rule Changes

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that the league has made adjustments to two rules, both geared towards goalkeeper distribution of the ball. Beginning this weekend, goalkeepers will be able to throw the ball over the distance of three lines on the field and kick the ball two over lines, into their team's offensive end of the field.
"Improving our fan experience must be a key consideration when making decisions regarding our game," said David J. Grimaldi, Commissioner of the MISL. "The enhancements we've made to our rules are designed to raise the level of excitement, showcase our talented players and increase goal scoring opportunities. Our teams were unanimous in supporting these positive changes."
With the new rule changes, a goalkeeper is now able to throw the ball from inside his own defensive third of the field, across his defensive yellow line, the midfield line and the offensive yellow line. Additionally, he is now able to kick the ball from his own defensive area, across his defensive yellow line and the midfield line; if the goalkeeper is outside his defensive yellow line, he can kick it past midfield and past the offensive yellow line. If the goalkeeper is inside his defensive area and throws or kicks the ball out of play, play will be restarted at the top of the arc; if he kicks the ball out of play from outside his defensive area; play is restarted from where the ball left the field of play. With these changes, goalkeepers and field players will now play by the same rule of being able to kick the ball over two lines but not over three lines.
