Minnesota's Crawford wins Player of the Month, Matisz wins Rookie award

The National Lacrosse League has announced Player of the Month and Rookie of the Month award winners for April of the 2013 NLL regular season that concluded on Saturday, April 20 with the first round of the playoffs set for this weekend. Two Minnesota Swarm players, forward Callum Crawford and rookie transition player Kiel Matisz, won awards in their respective categories after helping the team clinch a playoff spot.

Crawford, who averaged over eight points per game in April, won the Player of the Month award. In 14 games played this season, the Swarm's interim captain finished third in the NLL with 63 assists and fourth in the league in shooting percentage (.239) and overall scoring with 95 points (32+63) .

Matisz won Rookie of the Month after averaging over four points per game in April. The third overall pick of the 2012 NLL Entry Draft, Matisz finished the year ranked second among NLL rookies in goals (29), assists (33) and loose balls (70), third in rookie scoring with 62 points, and fifth in the NLL in shooting percentage (.228). With his first monthly rookie award, Matisz joined Edmonton Rush forward Mark Matthews as the only two players to earn the distinction in 2013.

Player of the Month

Callum Crawford, Minnesota Swarm (4 GP, 11G, 22A, 33 PTS, 20 LB): Crawford recorded a combined 33 points (11+22), with a single-game high of 10 points (2+8) on April 6 vs. Buffalo, and 20 loose balls as Minnesota posted a 2-2 record in the month of April .

Rookie of the Month

Kiel Matisz, Minnesota Swarm (4 GP, 9G, 9A, 18 PTS, 15 LB): Matisz recorded a combined 18 points (9+9), with a single-game high of five points three times, and 15 loose balls as Minnesota posted a 2-2 record in the month of April.

The NLL Monthly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the league's general managers and head coaches.
