GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. (April 19, 2013) - With the season already underway, Minnesota United FC has added depth to its roster with the signing of midfielder/defender Luis Heitor-Piffer on a three-year contract, pending league and USSF approval. A versatile left-footed player, Heitor-Piffer can play outside midfield or defense and impressed during Minnesota United FC's preseason in both roles, most notably with a goal and an assist in a friendly against Chicago's Bridges FC on March 15.

A native of Amparo, Brazil, the 24-year-old begins his professional career in Minnesota after a standout career at the NAIA's Grand View University. In two seasons at Grand View, Heitor-Piffer recorded 22 goals and 14 assists and earned the Midwest Collegiate Conference's Player of the Year award twice.

"We identified Luis over the winter in training, when he came out and pushed himself. We're excited for a young player to try out and make our squad and excited for his future with the club," said Minnesota United FC head coach and technical director Manny Lagos.

Heitor-Piffer will be available this Saturday afternoon as Minnesota United FC takes on FC Edmonton at 2:30 p.m. at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.

In other club news, Minnesota United FC also added goalkeeper Peter McKeown to the squad. A 6-foot-6 native of Woodbury, Minn., McKeown played collegiately at Chicago's Loyola University, where he made 64 career appearances and recorded 20 shutouts, second on Loyola's all-time list.

The club has also released Cameroonian defender Ernest Tchoupe. Tchoupe made 12 appearances last season for Minnesota, recording 1,002 minutes of action and a game-winning goal on May 5 on his debut for the club.
