Minnesota Swarm Signs Free Agent Defenseman Shawn Summerfield

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Swarm general manager Marty O'Neill announced today that the National Lacrosse League (NLL) team has signed free agent defenseman Shawn Summerfield to a contract. In addition the Swarm has placed defenseman Scott Campbell on injured reserve, released defenseman Neil Doddridge and activated goaltender Nick Patterson from injured reserve.

Summerfield, 24 (3/16/81), collected four assists and 24 penalty minutes in 15 games with the Ajax-Pickering Rock of the Ontario Lacrosse Association's (OLA) Senior ‘B' League last summer. The Scarborough, Ontario-native added one goal, two assists and 17 penalty minutes in eight playoff contests. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound defenseman recorded three assists and 23 penalty minutes in 15 games with Ajax-Pickering in 2003. Summerfield will wear jersey number 33 with the Swarm.

Doddridge, 35 (9/15/69), recorded two goals, two assists and 10 penalty minutes in four games with Minnesota this season. The Swarm signed him as a free agent on October 19.

Campbell, 23 (10/23/81), fractured both bones in his lower right leg vs. Buffalo on March 11. He collected one assist and 43 loose balls in seven games this season. Campbell was originally selected by Minnesota in the second round (10th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft.

Patterson, 22 (12/8/82), was placed on injured reserve on March 9 after suffering a torn MCL in his left knee in a game at Philadelphia on March 5. He has appeared in three games with Minnesota this season.
