Minnesota Swarm News Release

SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Swarm will own both the third and ninth overall picks in the first round of the 2009 NLL Entry Draft at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY on Wednesday, Sep. 9 at 6:00 p.m. CST. In total, the Swarm have seven draft picks, which also includes the first (13th overall) and last pick (23rd overall) in the second round.

"We are excited for this year's draft as it offers impact players across the board. With seven draft picks and two of them being in the first round, we should be able to add several talented players that can help make a difference for our club in 2010," stated General Manager Marty O'Neill.

The draft will consist of six rounds from which the league's eleven teams will select a total of 62 eligible players from NCAA and NCIA college lacrosse programs, as well as Canadian's junior lacrosse system.

Last season, the Swarm held a franchise record three first round draft picks and selected Robert Morris forward Andrew Watt (8th overall), Ohio State forward Kevin Buchanan (11th overall) and Maryland defenseman Joe Cinosky (13th overall). All three players went on to play significant minutes for the Swarm in 2009 and Buchanan was named to the NLL All-Rookie Team.

On draft night, the Swarm will be hosting a Draft Party at Buffalo Wild Wings in Roseville at 6:00 p.m. where fans will get live updates on all the draft picks.
