Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The last time the Minnesota Swarm (3-8) visited Mohegan Sun Arena to face the New England Black Wolves (3-6), the team posted a season-high total in goals during its 19-13 victory on Jan. 24. Minnesota will look to duplicate that performance this Sunday at 12 p.m. CT in New England, and snap a six-game losing streak in the process. Fans can catch the game live on UniversalSports.com (U.S.) and TSNGo (Canada).
"No one likes losing, everybody in this league is here to compete and we're obviously on a huge stint here and it's something we have to turn around," said Swarm captain Andrew Suitor. "New England's a great team, they took one from us at our home and we have to go into a great atmosphere there at the Mohegan Sun and try to steal one from them."
Saturday's matchup will mark the third of four meetings between the Swarm and Black Wolves this season. New England prevailed at The Hive two weeks ago during a last-minute victory, 10-9, to even the season series at 1-1. Minnesota hosts the Black Wolves on Friday, April 3, and in total, plays five of its remaining seven games at home to finish out the 2015 campaign. With two games in a row against New England, the Swarm has their hopes set on winning the season series against their division foe.
"We just have to put it all together offensively, defensively and goaltending for a full 60 minutes and then we're going to have the outcome we want," assistant coach Aime Caines said. "But until that happens, you see what happens in this league with the quality of teams so you have to focus and put everything together."
Minnesota got a boost last weekend when forward Callum Crawford and transition player David Earl returned to the lineup after both missed significant time with injuries. The Swarm lost however to Buffalo 12-8 at First Niagara Center.
Forward Shayne Jackson continues to lead Minnesota in scoring this season with 47 points (19g, 28a) and ranks amongst the Top 15 scorers in the NLL. Rookie forward Miles Thompson notched four points (2g, 2a) last weekend and sits one-point shy of leading all rookies in scoring with 43 points (18g, 25a).
The Black Wolves also lost last weekend on the road, 20-9 to Calgary. Kevin Crowley (18g, 27a), Kyle Buchanan (16g, 25a) and Kevin Buchanan (14g, 27a) lead the Black Wolves on offense in 2015. The Swarm will most likely face G Evan Kirk in net this weekend, who is 1-1 against Minnesota this season.
The Swarm returns to Ho-Chunk Nation Field at Xcel Energy Center on Friday, April 3 against New England during Family Night at The Hive. The first 1,000 fans in attendance for the 7:30 p.m. faceoff will receive Swarm bracelets courtesy of Swannys. Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-888-MN-SWARM or by visiting www.mnswarm.com .
