November 8, 2013 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced its final training camp schedule and three exhibition contests in preparation for the 2014 NLL season.
The Swarm will open their first weekend of main camp on Friday, Nov. 29 and will practice until Sunday, Dec. 1 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, Ontario. The team is set to return to Oakville for two additional main camp sessions from Dec. 6-8 and Dec. 13-15.
With the passing of the new CBA, teams are now permitted to carry a 20-man roster, and up to four practice players. All nine NLL teams will be required to submit their final 20-man rosters by Monday, Dec. 16. Last year, teams could field a 23-man roster and up to three practice players.
With limited active roster spots available, the Swarm's front office expects this year's training camp to be extremely competitive at all positions.
"We're going to get down to business right away and this will be the most intense training camp we've ever had," Swarm associate general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan said. "The difference this year with training camp is that we're going to assess the players during the first weekend and we're going to select our final team by that Sunday. The players who attend the second and third weekends of camp will essentially be fighting for starting positions on our 20-man roster."
Minnesota has also scheduled three exhibition games in December:
Date Time Opponent Location
Friday, Dec. 6 6 p.m. CT Colorado Oakville, Ontario
Saturday, Dec. 7 7 p.m. CT Rochester Rochester, NY
Saturday, Dec. 14 12:30 p.m. CT Calgary Oakville, Ontario
The Swarm enters the 2014 season with a young and potent roster that is coming off back-to-back NLL Division Finals appearances. Minnesota will compete in an additional two games this year, as the NLL approved a newly formatted 18-game regular season schedule this summer.
Since the franchise's inaugural season back in 2005, the Swarm has averaged close to 10,000 fans per game at The Hive. Swarm fans have helped make The Hive one of the toughest arenas to play in for visiting NLL teams as Minnesota has posted a league-best 16-8 record at home since 2011.
In 2014, the Swarm will be celebrating their 10th season of professional box lacrosse in the NLL and will kickoff the regular season on the road against the defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 28. Minnesota will make its home debut at The Hive on Sunday, Jan. 19 during a 2 p.m. matchup against the Philadelphia Wings at Xcel Energy Center.
