Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today acquired a 2013 fourth round draft pick in a trade with the Buffalo Bandits in exchange for F Mat Giles.
Giles, 36, completed his 13th season in the NLL in 2011 and ranked fourth on the Swarm with 43 points (16g, 27a) in 16 games. In his career, Giles has appeared in 176 games and has totaled 463 points (209g, 254a). The native of Peterborough, Ontario was acquired in a trade with Philadelphia prior to the 2011 season (8/23/10).
"During his tenure in Minnesota, Mat was a classy professional who brought stable leadership to our club and allowed a lot of younger guys to really mature underneath him," Associate General Manager Joe Sullivan said. "He added offense when we needed it, but really was the calming factor for us on the floor any given night."
Sullivan continued, "He's going to Buffalo now, which will allow him to be closer to his family and will allow his younger son to watch his Dad play lacrosse for the first time at the pro level. It's a great fit for him and we wish Mat all the best in Buffalo where we know he will have continued success."
The trade is currently pending league approval.
