Saint John Riptide News Release

The Manchester Millrats of the ABA announce that have come to terms with 6'2 combo guard John Huggins.

Huggins, a native of Philadelphia, PA, played for American International College in Springfield, MA; a divisional opponent of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) in the Northeast-10 Conference. In 2006, he led the Northeast-10 Conference in scoring with a 20.9 points-per-game average. Huggins was also nominated as 2nd Team All Conference, 2nd Team All North-East, and 2nd Team All-NABC Northeast region.

He reached double figures in scoring in 26 of the 27 games in which he appeared and scored at least 20 points on 17 occasions, including a season-high 30 points in a win at Saint Michael's. Huggins drained a school-record 83 three-pointers in 2005-06 and ranked among the NE-10 leaders in three-point field goals and free throw percentage (.817). Huggins had a string of 28 consecutive made free throws, one shy of the school record of 29. For his career, Huggins wound up as AIC's No. 4 all-time leading scorer with 1,786 points. He also made the second-most three-pointers in school history (235) and his 147 steals are good for sixth in school history. Huggins and Malik Moore, a former NE-10 Player of the Year, are the only two players in school history to rank in the top-10 in scoring, three-pointers and steals.

Last season, Huggins played for Äänekosken in Huima, Finland where he posted averages of 19.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game.

Sports agent and Portsmouth, NH native Chris Coates stated of Huggins: "John is a tireless player at both ends of the floor. He not only led his team and conference in scoring, but also covered the other teams best perimeter threat. He not only scored points, but he scored them when they counted. John is the rare player who wants to take the big shot on a consistent basis. John has the ability to contribute at both ends of the floor for many overseas teams."
