Millrats Return Al Stewart And Marlowe Currie

The Manchester Millrats are pleased to announce the return of Al Stewart and Marlowe Currie.

Stewart, a 5'10 point guard who was known as the fastest player ever out of Drake University, was named the PBL Co-Defensive Player of Year last season, anchoring the PBL's top defense. He averaged 11.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.8 steals per game.

Marlowe Currie, a 6'7 power forward and veteran of the minor leagues, was a PBL All-Playoff selection after averaging 16 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists per game versus the Rochester Razorsharks.

Currie helped an injury depleted Millrats team garner an important road win at Halifax on March 22nd, scoring 30 points on a sizzling 7-9 from three point range.

"We are very pleased to have Al and Marlowe back on the team this season," stated Millrats Head Coach Heath Teixeira. "The competition will be fierce this season and to know we have battle-tested guys is important, and both of these guys are leaders."

The Millrats plan to announce more signings prior to opening training camp on December 12th.

The Manchester Millrats are a third year minor league franchise based in Manchester, NH. The Millrats are a member of the Premier Basketball League (www.pblproball.com) - the #1 independent minor league in the U.S.

Last season Manchester was the Atlantic Division champion (16-4) and reached the PBL playoff semifinals.

Manchester is slated to face the Halifax Rainmen on December 19th at 7:00pm in a preseason game in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Halifax has presold all 10,000 tickets for the event, which features a rematch of the two-year rival franchises. Former Millrat and Portland Trailblazer, Desmond Ferguson, is now a member of the Rainmen.

Tickets are also onsale online at www.millrats.com for the Millrats season opener against the Vermont Frost Heaves on January 3rd at Southern New Hampshire University.
