Saint John Riptide News Release

The Manchester Millrats of the Premier Basketball League (PBL) announce the signing of Marlowe Currie, pending league approval.

Currie can play the shooting guard, small forward, or power forward because of his court awareness. He is a great all-around player with good post-up moves and the ability to knock down the open three. He is a player who is willing to do the dirty work and will bring years of experience to the Millrats.

The 6'7" veteran has previously played for the Millrats Head Coach, Rob Spon, as a member of the Gary Steelheads in the USBL and IBL. Over the years, he has also played in the WBA (with the Gainesville Knights) and the CBA (with the Gary Steelheads and Oklahoma Calvary).

"Marlowe is a poor man's Larry Bird," said Spon. "He is not the most athletic person on the floor, but he knows how to get the right position on the boards. He is not afraid to step in and take a charge. His court awareness is tremendous as well. Currie can guard multiple different positions on the defensive end. Not only can he knock down the open jump shot, but he can also create his own shot off the dribble. He is a great team captain because he practices hard everyday and sees to it that his teammates match his intensity. He is a true team player, the kind you need to win a championship."

Manchester is looking to build on its inaugural 28-win season, as the second year franchise enters its first year in the Premier Basketball League. The Millrats have already announced the signing of 6'7" Desmond Ferguson, 5'10" Al Stewart, 6'6" P.J. Young, 6'8" Scott Hazelton, 6'4" Alex Owumi, 6'10" John Oates, 6'8" Charles Mason, 6'5" Tyrone Anderson, and 5'11" Derek Coleman.
