ABA Saint John Riptide

Millrats, Heaves Round Three

December 15, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Saint John Riptide News Release

Burlington, Vermont December 15, 2007: The first ranked, 12-1 Manchester Millrats travel north on Monday to play the ABA Champion Vermont Frost Heaves again in another much-anticipated match up.

The game was originally slated for Sunday at 4:15 pm, but was rescheduled to Monday night at 7:05 pm by the 'Frost Heaves' due to an impending snow storm (oh the irony!).

The Millrats are 3-0 against Vermont this season, including an October preseason game, but Vermont held significant leads in all three games. The last two wins required stunning comebacks by Manchester. On December 2nd, at Southern New Hampshire University, Vermont held a 101-93 lead with a mere 1:28 left on the clock, but Rob Sanders single handedly brought Manchester from behind to prevail in overtime. And then on December 6th in Barre, Manchester rallied from a 27 point first quarter deficit, overcoming technicals and ejections to win 115-109.

Manchester has since won three straight games over Boston and Montreal in a home and away, adding to a ten game overall winning streak. Vermont has won two in row, defeating Quebec at home and winning a squeaker against Halifax on the road. The Frost Heaves have also improved with the addition of Cal-State Bakersfield guard Dwuan Rice, formerly of the NBDL.

With a budding history already brewing between these two heavyweights, basketball fans everywhere should not miss this one! As the case with all Frost Heaves home games, Monday's night's game will be broadcast LIVE and FREE on the internet via PlayOn! Sports webcast. The Millrats are lead in scoring by 6'0 guard Ismael Caro (18.8 ppg), 5'11 guard Anthony Anderson (18.4 ppg), 6'7 ABA All Star forward Rob Sanders (17.6 ppg), and 6'11 center Souleymane Wane (11.9 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 2.3 bpg). 6'2 guard John Huggins scores 17.6 ppg off the bench.

Vermont is led by 6'4 guard Terence Green (19.0 ppg), 6'8 forward Issa Konare (18 ppg), 6'5 forward Antonio Burks (12.2 ppg), 6'9 center Dokun Akinbade (11.1 ppg), and 6'0 point guard Dwayne Lee (10.5 ppg). Newcomer Dwuan Rice, a 5'11 guard, has averaged 13.0 ppg since his arrival.
