Saint John Riptide News Release
Manchester, New Hampshire: The Manchester Millrats are back home this Saturday at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) for a 7:00 pm game against the Halifax Rainmen.
The Millrats return to New Hampshire just may be a much needed shot in the arm. Manchester is just 2-8 in it's last ten games, and has struggled with injuries to it's frontline, travel difficulties going to Singapore, and most recently altercations in the 1/12 game at Vermont. The altercations led to suspensions of players on both teams, however they led to Manchester releasing point guard Ismael Caro and Ife Anosike.
In addition, General Manager Ian McCarthy has added some new faces to the Millrats. Local product Chris Burns from Merrimack, NH is now a Millrat. This past weekend, Manchester brought aboard 5'10 point guard Al Stewart (Drake), and 6'8 forward Charles Mason (Bunker Hill CC). Not only will the Millrats have to go without Anosike and Caro, but Souleymane Wane has also been placed on injured reserve until his knee gets better.
"This is the toughest time to be a General Manager," explained McCarthy, "you have to find players that are as good as advertised but also ones that fit in, and do it during the season between games. Its not easy to do but we feel good about the people we're working with."
Meanwhile the Rainmen have vastly improved since the Millrats last saw their team. Manchester has gone 4-0 against Halifax, but this is a different team. Since starting the season 1-7, Halifax has rallied to go 7-4 in their last eleven games. Last night they defeated the Quebec Kebs 116-109 in Quebec, to move a half game ahead of them in the standings of the Blue-Northeast Division. Manchester now stands with a record of 13-9, but remains in first place in the Blue North Division.
One silver lining: Manchester guard Anthony Anderson has been averaging 31.0 points per game in 2008. He will be called upon to carry more of the scoring load with Caro gone.
Single game tickets are just $9.75 for adults and $6.75 for kids (17 & under) and are available at the door, online at www.manchestermillrats.com, or by calling 1-866-9-GETTIX. Group pricing just $5.50 each for groups of 20 or more. SNHU faculty and students get in FREE with a valid school ID.
