Saint John Riptide News Release
The Saint John Mill Rats kept their playoff hopes alive by defeating the Halifax Rainmen 98-95 in a hotly contested match in front of 3,962 at Harbour Station.
No team led by more than six points throughout the contest and Saint John held a 62-56 lead at the half. With a playoff feel hanging heavy in the air, this one was going to go down to the wire.
Anthony Anderson's driving layup, followed by a slick reverse pass out to Steve Deluca for a timely three pointer, allowed the Mill Rats some breathing room in the final minute. With the score 97-92 Marshall Brown for Halifax drilled a desperation three pointer with seconds left to cut the deficit, but Dwuan Rice made one of two free throws for the final margin with 2.7 seconds left.
Anthony Anderson led Saint John with 21, Dwuan Rice had 20, Marc Egerson 13, PJ Young 12, Steve Deluca 11, and Terry Martin 10. Deandre Thomas led Halifax with 23.
The Mill Rats record improves to a tie with Halifax with both teams at 9-10.
The winner of Thursday's game at the Metro Centre in Halifax will earn the right to face the #1 ranked Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry in the first round of the PBL playoffs. Should the Mill Rats win Thursday, Game 1 of the playoffs will be held on Sunday at 4:00pm at Harbour Station.
