Mill Rats Announce Roster & Schedule Changes

March 2, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Saint John Riptide News Release

The Saint John Mill Rats are in the process of adding 6'10 240 lb centre Modibo Diarra and 6'7 215 lb forward P.J. Young to the roster, and have released Rob Diggs.

Diarra fills a void left after the departure of 6'9 power forward Stanley Ocitti, who left for an overseas contract in Australia. He played college basketball for John Calipari at Memphis, and has played professionally in France, Germany, Tunisia, Algeria, and in Morroco. His Morrocan team, Plaza Casablance Sport, just won a championship in Tripoli, Libya a few weeks ago. Diarra was fortunate to get out of Libya and back to his hometown of Bamako, Mali in West Africa.

Prior to Memphis, he played at Notre Dame Prep in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and played AAU ball for the legendary Boston Amateur Basketball Club (BABC).

P.J. Young rejoins the team after being released during training camp. He is a combo forward who can play either the small forward or power forward spots and is an adept defender. This is something the Mill Rats front office went looking for after Halifax's Josh Dollard went for 38 points in the Rainmen's February 25th overtime win against Saint John.

In 2007-2008, Young was a starter for the Mill Rats in Manchester, averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists and 2 steals and was named to the ABA All Star Game in Barre, Vermont. In addition to the Mill Rats, he has played in Portugal, the Dominican Republic, China, and also had a stint with the Quebec City Kebs in 2009.

Both players are expected to be in uniform against the Rochester RazorSharks on Thursday at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.
