The regular season moves forward
MAHL week #14 will be a busy one leading up to the All-Star break. The action resumes on Wednesday night (1/30) as the second place Wooster Warriors travel to the Indiana Ice Miners for the make-up of Sunday (1/20) game. The Ice Miners have continued to add to their professional record for consecutive wins having now won twenty-one in a row. Wooster is also riding a five game winning streak and the Warriors have a seven point lead over the Mon Valley Thunder and eight points on the Jamestown Vikings. The Valley Forge Freedom is now six points out of the final MAHL playoff spot with eight weeks remaining in the regular season.
More MAHL call-ups
Valley Forge's Gabe Yeung (to Laredo/CHL) and Chris Clark (to Wichita/CHL), Mon Valley's Gary Klapkowski (to Dayton/ECHL), and Indiana's Russell Spence & Andrew Scampoli (to Youngstown/CHL) all got the opportunity to play in the "AA" leagues this past week. And with Indiana's Jason McCrimmon heading to Memphis/CHL on Tuesday, thirty players have now been given call-ups this season.
Valley Forge Super Sunday game postponement
Due to the intense interest in this year's Super Bowl which involves two northeastern teams (New England Patriots and the New York Giants), the Valley Forge Freedom regrets to announce that they will postpone this coming Sunday's game (February 3rd) vs. Mon Valley. Once all the details have been finalized, a make-up date for the game will be announced by the Valley Forge Freedom.
MAHL "Player of the Week"
The Indiana Ice Miners forward Kyle Bozoian is the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League Player of the Week. The 6'-2", 205lbs native of St. Louis, Missouri had a six point week (2 goals & 4 assists) as the Ice Miners continued their winning ways. Kyle is playing in his first professional season after playing four years of college hockey at SUNY-Fredonia. Currently, he is tied for fifth in MAHL scoring with 21 goals-30 assists-51 points.
MAHL "Goaltender of the Week"
Nick Reibel of the Wooster Warriors is the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League Goaltender of the Week. Nick shutout the Valley Forge Freedom last Saturday night (1/26) stopping all 27 shots that he faced in the Warriors 7-0 victory. It was only the third shutout of the year in the offensive minded MAHL. Since joining the Warriors, the twenty-two year old native of Chicago, Illinois is a perfect 4-0 with a 3.14 goals against average and a 91.7% save percentage.
