Miami Stars Join CBL
September 23, 2010 - Continental Basketball League (CBL) News Release
The Miami Stars have joined the CBL for the 2011 season; it was announced today by Continental Basketball League Commissioner Dennis Truax. The Stars will begin play in April 2011 and announce their venue at a later date.
The Stars are owned by Tony Spates. Spates will also man the sidelines for the Stars. Spates, a well-respected member of the Miami business community, is a former assistant coach at Palm Beach Atlantic University and with several local high schools. Under his direction, numerous players have been rated in the Top 50 for their graduating class and have also gone onto successful careers in Europe and overseas.
"I am greatly honored to be a part of the CBL," said Spates. "This is an up and coming league that does things the right way and that's the way we do things with the Stars. We will be active members of the community and provide vast opportunities for the local talent here in Miami as players and also as a part of our front office. I am looking forward to an outstanding year on and off the court with the Stars."
"We are very happy to have the Stars on board with us for the upcoming season," said CBL Commissioner Truax. "The Stars are our third team in the Sunshine State and we are already preparing for quite the rivalry between them the Titans and the Flight. Mr. Spates is an accomplished businessman and coach and will have a great team on the floor and also in the front office. We are looking forward to having his franchise do great things in the CBL."
