Miami Manatees News Release
MIAMI, Fla. â Miami Manatees Head Coach Zac Boyer today announced the signing of defenseman Jean-Francois Picard.
"I played with Picard in Colorado." Boyer said. "He is a definitely an aggressive old school defenseman. He has a hard first pass and he does a lot of the little things right."
"He is very mean in front of the net and is definitely a dominating penalty killer. When you go to war with guys it is pretty easy to vouch for them, so he was a pretty easy guy for me to bring along to Miami."
The six foot, 202 pound native of Montreal, Quebec spends time in South Florida during the off season.
Last season, Picard split time between the Laredo Bucks and the Wichita Thunder. He scored three goals and 20 points, and amassed 54 penalty minutes in 46 games.
A five year hockey veteran, Picard won the President's Cup with the Memphis Riverkings in the 2001-2002 season. In 16 playoff games, Picard scored two goals and five points and had 22 minutes in penalties.
"He is a proven winner, and he showed that by winning the championship with the Riverkings. I want him to bring that experience down with him to Miami." Boyer said.
"I am pretty excited because it is a new team." Picard said. "I played with Zac in Colorado and I know what kind of person he is. I can bring some experience as I won a championship two years ago with Memphis, and I can help the younger players on and off the ice. I will try my best to bring a championship to Miami."
The Miami Manatees will face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads, Jacksonville Barracudas, Orlando Seals, Macon Trax, and a yet-to-be-named Central Alabama team in late October. Season Tickets for the Miami Manatees are now on sale. For further information, please contact the Manatees at (305) 536-PUCK (7825).
