Miami FC Take on Indy Eleven in Indianapolis
July 1, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Miami FC News Release
Indianapolis, Indiana (Friday, July 1) - The Miami Football Club arrives at Indianapolis to face off against Indy Eleven for a second time this season. The Orange and Blue look for their first win since May 21.
Miami FC is coming off a 3-1 loss against LA Galaxy II. The South Florida side went down 2-0 in the opening ten minutes of the match. However, forward Kyle Murphy closed down the difference to just one goal in the 16th minute. Newcomer Joaquín Rivas helped Murphy get his third goal of the season.
Miami looked as if it tied the game up just before the half. Unfortunately, Callum Chapman-Page's goal was not counted despite the ball crossing the goal line. Galaxy II struck again in the second half to cement an away win over Miami FC.
Miami FC has performed better on the road than at home in league play this season. The Orange and blue have collected 11 points in seven away matches, compared to ten points in ten home games.
Last Time Out Against Indy Eleven
Miami FC and Indy Eleven drew 1-1 at FIU Stadium on June 8. The Orange and Blue kicked off on the right foot with forward Christian Sperto scoring a goal in the opening 15 minutes. Nonetheless, former MFC forward Stefano Pinho equalized the scoring ten minutes into the second half. The goal helped the Boys in Blue to an away point.
Miami FC leads the all-time record against Indy Eleven, standing at 6W-1L-2D. The match earlier in the season was the first time the two clubs meet on the pitch since 2017.
About Indy Eleven
Indy Eleven is arriving home after a month-long road trip that saw them win one, lose two and draw one. In detail, the Eleven won against Charleston Battery 4-3, drew Miami FC 1-1, and fell to San Diego Loyal 5-0 and Colorado Springs Switchbacks 4-3. Indy enters the match on a two-game losing streak, just like Miami.
Saturday's match will mark the first-ever time the Boys in Blue play on their new turf at Carrol Stadium. The new playing surface, FieldTurf's CORE model, is used at five MLS venues. The turf was installed during Indianapolis' road trip.
The Eleven lost its previous home game 2-1 at the hands of New Mexico United on May 28. However, Indy won its three home before that one against Hartford Athletic, Orange County and NY Red Bulls II.
Up Next for Miami FC
Miami FC returns to South Florida only to train for a few days before heading north again. This time, Miami faces Pittsburgh Riverhounds at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, July 9.
