The Mexican National Futbol Rapido Team defeated Team Canada 9-7 in the finals of the Coupe Canada Soccer Rapide Montreal 2009 to win their third straight FIFRA international championship.
Vicente Figueroa scored four goals in the deciding game, but it was goalkeeper Juan De La O who took home the trophy as the tournament MVP.
Mexico improved to 9-0 in international play, including 4-0 against the United Stated National Arena Soccer Team. Mexico will face the USNAST Saturday in North Richland Hills, TX to compete for the Independence Cup.
It was the second straight year that Mexico played Canada in the Montreal final. Last year Mexico took it 10-5. In both games Canada fell behind early only to see a furious rally fall short.
