Meet Coach Lessett
September 28, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Saint John Riptide News Release
Manchester, New Hampshire: The Manchester Millrats announce that they have hired Larry Lessett to serve as the Head Coach of the franchise for it's upcoming inaugural season. Coach Lessett served as the camp coordinator for the Millrats open tryout camp last Saturday at the Sportszone.
"Coach brings a tremendous basketball resume to the table, in addition to be a very enthusiastic, highly passionate person when it comes to competing on the basketball court," stated Millrats General Manager Ian McCarthy.
He recently served as the Head Basketball Coach for division 1 Maryland-Eastern Shore from 2004-2007. Prior to that, Coach Lessett worked for Magic Johnson International Basketball, and coached several very successful teams in the International Basketball Association (IBA), another minor league similar to the ABA. During his career he has had the opportunity to coach many great players including several then NBA players Magic Johnson, Tracey Murray, and Elden Campbell.
"I look forward to being the Millrats Coach, and feel that with players we are inviting to Veteran's Camp we have the opportunity to do something special in Manchester," wrote Larry Lessett in an email to the team accepting the position.
The Millrats Veteran's Camp is scheduled for October 5th and 6th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm at the SportsZone in Derry, NH. Immediately following the camp, the team's players will be introduced a to-be-announced press conference.
The Millrats are a new entry in the American Basketball Association (ABA), and will play their home games in the 'Fieldhouse' on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, NH. The season and home opener is set for Sunday November 11, 2007 at 4:35 p.m. versus the Boston Blizzard. Single game, season and half season ticket plans are on sale now on www.manchestermillrats.com or by calling 1-866-9-GET TIX (1-866-943-8849).
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
