Waikiki BeachBoys News Release

Waikiki catcher Michael McKenry crushed a Neil Wagner fastball over the fence in left-center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the BeachBoys a 7-6 victory over the visiting West Oahu CaneFires this afternoon at Hans L'Orange Park. With one out and facing a 1-2 count, McKenry timed Wagner's pitch perfectly and drove his third dinger of the season just past a television scaffolding about 400 feet away.

McKenry also doubled and drove in two runs while teammate Josh Womack added a solo homer to help the BeachBoys (8-8) end a five-game losing streak. Michael Wilson collected 2 RBIs and improved his average to .347 on the season, while Honolulu native Matt Inouye went 2-3.

In defeat, Chad Tracy went 3-5 with a two-run home run in the first inning, and picked up a game-high 5 RBIs for West Oahu (4-11-1).

David Newton moved to 2-0 on the year, holding the CaneFires scoreless and striking out two in the final 1 1/3 innings. Wagner fell to 0-1 after allowing McKenry's blast.

Both squads have a scheduled day off tomorrow after playing games in eight straight days.
