Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that forward Zak McClellan has signed with the team for the 2010-11 season.
"Zak has played a big role on our team over the past two seasons and I look for him to continue to progress in his pro career heading into his third season," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "He is a great locker room guy, great teammate, and versatile player that makes our team better in every situation he is put in."
The Frankenmuth, Mich., native turned pro in the 2008 after playing four seasons at Michigan State University. In 123 pro games, the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder has collected 75 points (24-51-75) and has been one of the team's most consistent penalty killers.
McClellan, 27, is second all time on the Killer Bees shorthanded goals list with eight. He scored four of those last season, tying the single-season record. He is also tied for third all-time with a plus-minus rating of plus-13. Last season, he finished eighth in team scoring with 38 points (13-25-38) and led the team with a plus-six rating. He also served as an alternate captain.
The Killer Bees begin their eighth season of play at State Farm Arena in Hidalgo this October. The regular season schedule is currently being finalized and will likely be announced in July.
