Match Preview: Loudoun United Heads to Audi Field for First-Ever Meeting with D.C. United

Leesburg, VA - Loudoun United FC travels to Audi Field this Wednesday to face Major League Soccer side D.C. United in the 2026 DMV Derby. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET as the Red-and-White prepare for the first-ever meeting between the two clubs.

The Matchup

Loudoun enters Wednesday's friendly with momentum following a 2-0 home victory against Hartford Athletic. Abdellatif Aboukoura opened the scoring just before halftime before Thor Úlfarsson added a second-half goal to secure the club's second consecutive victory and clean sheet.

The Red-and-White are unbeaten in their last three USL Championship matches, earning victories against Indy Eleven and Hartford after a 1-1 draw against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Loudoun will look to carry the confidence and defensive organization from those performances into Wednesday's test against MLS opposition. D.C. United returns to Audi Field after rallying from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Nashville SC on Saturday.

Wednesday's matchup will bring together two clubs with longstanding ties throughout the DMV. Numerous players have represented both organizations over the years, including current Loudoun midfielder Pedro Santos, who made 51 appearances for D.C. United from 2023 to 2024. Richie Aman also joined the Red-and-White on loan from D.C. United ahead of the 2026 season.

While no league points will be on the line, the friendly will give Loudoun an opportunity to compete against MLS opposition on a major stage. The Red-and-White will look to approach the match with the same intensity and discipline shown throughout their recent run of results while taking advantage of the opportunity to represent Loudoun at Audi Field.

Head Coach Anthony Limbrick on Wednesday's test against D.C. United:

"We're really looking forward to the test on Wednesday night. It's a local game at Audi Field, and we want to test ourselves against MLS-caliber players. That is really exciting for a lot of our young players who we have been developing and working with, so we're looking forward to that. We've been treating the game as we would any other game, making sure we prepare properly and get our tactical work in on both sides of the ball, in and out of possession. We're looking forward to the game and seeing a lot of the fans."
