Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders dropped their second game of the series against the Corpus Christi Hooks, falling 5-0 at Riders Field Wednesday night. J.P. Martinez led the Riders with two hits at the plate behind his sixth double of the year.
The Houston Astros sent pitcher Jake Odorizzi (1-0) for a rehab start with the Double-A Hooks and picked up the win with no runs allowed in five innings. Odorizzi struck out six and didn't give up a walk in Wednesday's game.
Riders starter Cody Bradford (5-5) struck out three in his five innings of work, giving up only two earned on four hits. Bradford's five innings Wednesday night marked his third time in June he's cleared the fifth inning and his sixth time overall this year.
Frisco designated hitter Kellen Strahm extended his on-base streak to 18 games Wednesday night with a single to lead off the fourth inning. Strahm has reached base safely in every one of his outings since June 4th, batting .343/.429/.537 in that span.
Corpus Christi scored early with four consecutive hits on Bradford and five total in the top of the second to take a 4-0 lead. Only two of the four runs in the inning were earned runs, however, as Frisco committed a defensive error with two outs and allowed two more runs in. In Bradford's final three innings, he gave up no runs on no hits and featured a pair of strikeouts.
Frisco reliever Nick Starr relieved Bradford for two innings in the Wednesday loss, giving up an unearned run on three hits. Lefty reliever Triston Polley finished the effort on the mound for the Riders with two innings of scoreless baseball and two punch outs.
After Odorizzi finished the fifth, the Hooks turned to right-hander Jose Bravo for the next 3.2 innings, who held the Riders offense scoreless on four hits and four strikeouts. Corpus Christi needed Jonathan Sprinkle out of the bullpen for the final out, as he stranded two runners aboard in the bottom of the ninth.
Frisco's starting pitcher for Thursday night's contest against Corpus Christi is now yet to be determined after RHP Jack Leiter was placed on the development list, the Rangers announced earlier Wednesday. The Hooks send RHP Cody Deason (0-3, 10.00 ERA) to the mound for his ninth appearance of the season, having missed April 29th-June 5th.
This week's promotional schedule continues Thursday night with Singles Night, as Ivan Hall from Season 16 of the Bachelorette is on hand for Thirsty Thursday and another Blue Norther Hard Seltzer Rowdy @ The River.
Frisco welcomes in Stars & Stripes Weekend, beginning with Fireworks Friday, presented by Raising Cane's, and Sky-Lit Saturday! Then on Sunday, show up early for an American flag giveaway! Fans can stick around postgame for the Independence Day Fireworks Show on July 3rd, the biggest fireworks show of the year!
